Bring Light, Save Lives: Solar Power for Kilembe Mines Hospital in Uganda’s Mountains

Daktari Project is a small, volunteer-run NGO founded by doctors to support the Kilembe Mines Hospital in Western Uganda. Established in 2015, the organization ensures that 100% of donated funds go directly to the hospital, which serves as a vital healthcare center in the Kasese district located at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains. It is  an important healthcenter for the area, with people traveling long distances by foot to be treated in the Kilembe Mines Hospital.

Daktari Project provides financial, logistical, and educational support. Their efforts focus on infection prevention, orthopedics, maternity care, and wound care, both through on-site assistance and international fundraising efforts.

The hospital urgently needs your help to secure reliable electricity and deliver safe healthcare. Devastating floods forced the hospital’s closure in 2022, but since reopening, it has faced persistent power challenges. Electricity is critical for surgeries, sterilization, laboratory work, and refrigeration of vital medications. To solve this, the Daktari Project aims to install a sustainable solar energy system to replace the hospital’s outdated generator. With a total cost of €40,000, every donation counts.
