2026 Boots and Buckles Benefit

Refuge Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing equine-assisted therapy for mentally and physically challenged individuals in our community. Our mission is to enhance individual, family, and group functioning by providing opportunities to develop skills for solving problems, overcoming obstacles, and reaching individual as well as group goals.

Refuge Services provides equine-assisted therapies to individuals of all ages, offering hippotherapy, therapeutic riding, and equine-assisted psychotherapy. We serve children, adolescents, adults, veterans and their families with special needs and disabilities in Lubbock and surrounding areas. Nationwide, equine-assisted therapies have become a preferred form of treatment for many issues from disabilities to mental health and behavioral diagnoses. The rhythmic movements of the horse provide correction and rehabilitation to clients with muscle and speech limitations. During the hour-long sessions, the therapist concentrates on improving the client’s physical, sensory, emotional, cognitive, and psychological deficiencies.

On April 11, 2026, Refuge Services will host our 17th annual “Boots and Buckles” Benefit at the Texas Tech Frazier Alumni Pavilion. There will be a silent and live auction, barbeque dinner, and live music. This is a very important event for our organization and the people we serve. The funds raised provide scholarships for children and adults to receive therapy. Many veterans and their families depend on our services. Donations help those transitioning back into civilian life and offer veteran dependents an opportunity to receive the support they need as their parent(s) navigate this transition. Our equine-assisted veteran services help soldiers process conditions like PTSD, anxiety, relationship problems, and substance abuse.
